We met my friend Ruth Ann for lunch up on the northside (longest trip yet for Miss Maddie). The trip there was great - she slept the entire ride...but boy...there is nothing quite as nerve wracking as driving on the interstate with idiots while you have a 7-week old baby in the back seat. Dang. Morons. And construction?! Wow. Glad I don't drive up on the northside very often. ;) Ruth Ann and I worked together at the Canterbury Hotel many years ago...and we were also in Executive Women International together. She also lived right across the street from my mom and dad for awhile! So we go way back! We had a nice lunch...and Maddie wasn't too bad, just a little fussy...until she had one of her (now) infamous poo explosions. She seemed relieved - but I was far from relieved when I went to the restroom to change her diaper. Holy poo! It had also gotten all over her outfit - and new mommy forgot to pack a change of clothes (I know, shocking...considering how many clothes she has!). I took off her pants - but, thinking it was just pee that had leaked, left her in her onesie. No harm, right? It'll dry!
Well. It wasn't pee - it was good 'ol poo. :) Which just makes me laugh out loud right now. I didn't realize this until I got home and pulled it out of my diaper bag. Poor Ruth Ann even held her after I had changed her...I hope she didn't get poo on her clothes when she held her! :)
Her is a pic of Maddie with Ruth Ann - and her poo-stained onesie. Oh my gosh - I'm laughing out loud again at the thought.
This is the beautiful blanket that Ruth Ann knitted for Maddie...*love* it! :) |
I finally made it downtown - and Maddie slept the whole way there. But boy as soon as we hit the Westin parking garage she was wide awake and not happy about it! I thought "oh she'll calm down once we get inside"...but folks, that did *not* happen. The closer we got to the 3rd floor, the madder she got. :) It didn't help that the main elevators are down because of the renovation in the lobby - so we had to go thru the back of the house and use the service elevators (escorted by the GM by the way - dang it!). Once we hit the sales office, she was in full screaming mode. Once more people starting coming out to see her, the louder she got. :) And the more frazzled I got. Holy cow.
Which leads to 2nd new mommy mistake of the day - I left her diaper bag (with bottle) in the car because I thought "oh we won't be in there long". So! Once she started eating her arm while everyone watched - I had to run downstairs and get her bottle...and yes, again, the main elevators were out of commission. :) By the time I got back she was full blown ticked off...and would have no part of a bottle with formula in it. Nina, our receptionist....God love her...said "maybe she needs her diaper changed?" :) Heck at that point Maddie could have told me point blank "I need a diaper change" and I would have been too frazzled to consider it. :) So I took her into our reception area lounge and changed her...and she was ok...for a few minutes. :) Then she started screaming again. So Nina, again..bless her heart...says "maybe she wants breast milk?". :) So that's what we did - and you know? She was just fine (for another 20 minutes or so - I'm not making miracles here folks!). We said our goodbyes...and headed down to see my friend Doug (who is having a baby boy in 2 weeks!!) - here is a photo with him....(when I remembered I had my camera!):
We headed home then. :) It was nice to see everyone at work...and nice to hear how I've been missed. :) But it will still be sooo very hard to go back in 3 weeks! I might try to bring her by again sometime in the next couple weeks when she's feeling more "sociable". :) By the way..."refreshed and renewed" are Westin brand words. Don't ask. But it's funny, trust me.
When we got home, we both crashed. HARD. Like I think we slept for a couple hours without moving! Here is Miss Maddie:
A couple people asked how much she weighs now....so we weighed her tonight on my official Weight Watchers scale from the bathroom (!) - she weighed in at 12.2lbs.! Which is up a couple pounds from the last doctor visit. Anxious to see what she weighs at the next doctor visit in a couple weeks!
So that's our day...I think tomorrow we'll just hang out at home. :)
