Today is Madison's 2-month birthday! Derrick and I were talking today about how it seems like so long ago...not just two months ago. We treasure each and every day with her - and look forward to each new day to see what it will bring! :) Now if only she would sleep a little bit longer at night...:)
She had her check-in with Dr. Kidd this week (see previous post - shots...ew). Update on her measurements:
- Weight - 13.05lbs (95th percentile for her age - which means she is heavier than 95% of all baby girls her age!)
- Height - 24" (again, 95th percentile for her age)
- Head - 15 5/8" (65th percentile - so, as Derrick says, she does not have a "great big Sowder head". I myself find that disappointing. :)
At 2 months, Madison...
...still has longer hair in the back - but there is some growing on top now too. :) i think the color is changing to more of a dark brown - at least that's what the top looks like. still not enough hair for barrette's though! i did forget to mention last month, but she does have hair on her ears too. i know...it's hysterical. like an old man. it's been there since the day she was born - and we're hoping it eventually falls off. derrick says she is part 'wookie'. :)
...her eyes? well...still hard to say. some days they even look gray! it's still TBD whether they are going to be blue or brown!
...still does *not* have the sleep thing down. :( just when we have a good night (or two), she changes it up on us again. labor day weekend she slept two 4-hour stints...we were so tickled. but then on that tuesday (when derrick had to go back to work), she was up every couple hours again. one night this week this actually slept close to 5.5 hours!! but i had had a rough day with her and she hadn't slept much throughout the day...so i think that's why she slept so long. derrick went camping last weekend - so i was on my own...and i had a heck of a time with her at night! the first night i was up like every hour! (sigh). she must have known that her daddy was gone. :(
...she's doing well in her princess crib - and will even let me put her down there for a few minutes while i shower each morning! :) she's getting more interested in her musical aquarium - but mostly just loves to watch her butterflies mobile. :) now if only that darn mobile played longer than 5 minutes...
...we've been doing bath every night now - started out in hopes it would help her sleep through the night and now we just do it because she likes it (and i *love* the smell of a freshly bathed baby!). i call it her "spa" night - we turn the lights down and she just chills out in her big baby tub. :) she pretty much has a 'poker face' while she's in the tub - no emotion whatsoever...she just stares at us and chills. :) if she's in the mood, i'll give her a baby massage afterwards with some yummy J&J lavender lotion!
...breastfeeding is officially d-o-n-e. as of today as a matter-of-fact. it was just getting to be too much - and the thought of dealing with it when i went back to work was enough for a major anxiety attack! she was wanting to eat like every hour, so it's like she wasn't getting enough - and then the gas. don't get me started on the gas!! :) i called dr. kidd's office not once, but *twice*, because she seemed like she was in so much pain (and the fact she would not poop for entire days at a time - how can that be normal??). and finally the third time i asked to come in and have him look at her! without laughing too hard at me (!), he said gas is normal - eating every 2-3 hours is normal (for breastfeed babies) - thus sleeping every 2-3 hours is normal. so there. she's normal! my little angel just sat and smiled the whole time we were there too - like she had no idea why mom brought her in. :) there were just too many 'pro's' to quitting - including not being blamed for what i ate when she had gas. i swear i gave up caffeine, milk and spicy foods (just like dr. kidd suggested) - but it just always seemed to come into question. :) and although i gave up coke (in lieu of sprite), i'm not sure i even want a coke now. anyway - as dr. kidd said, at 8 weeks, i had done my part that was 'medically necessary' for her health (officially 6 weeks)...and although he is "supposed" to advise me to breastfeed until 12 months (OMG) - he completely understands that sometimes it's just time to stop when it's best for the mom and baby! so i did. and yes, i do have guilty feelings about not having that 'bonding' experience with her still...i wonder if she wonders why she gets bottles all the time now and if she misses that closeness. i know i do. :( that was the only 'con' to stopping...
...maddie will actually have a 'conversation' with you now....she'll look you right in the eye and respond to something you say to her. :) it's the cutest thing and makes my heart melt! you can ask her questions and she'll watch you very intently and then respond with a "goooo" or a screech - i just love it. now if you want to talk about intense conversations...that's what maddie and her friend 'mr. ceiling fan' have. holy cow. they could go on for hours! and really any ceiling fan will do - she's not particular to any one fan. i will lay her on the bed in our room - and she'll look up and it's like she thinks "there you are!"....she'll just *smile* and coo and giggle and yell...it's the funniest thing. it's like they have this special language! she's not as big into the ficus trees now...but she'll still give them a stare from time to time. she does still show the love to her butterflies mobile...just not as much as the ceiling fan. guess cause he spins faster. :)
...she's quickly growing out of her 0-3 clothes. very quickly. like so quickly i almost don't have pajamas for her anymore! the 3-month pj's i have are getting pretty tight! i did go thru her tote and got some of the 3-6 months stuff out - sadly, a few of those things are for summer...so hopefully we have a couple more warmer days here before fall really sets in. she's still mostly in onesies - i know, i know...even with all of the beautiful dresses i have! :)
...some of her favorite things this month? ceiling fans of course...mirrors (this is new - as of yesterday at dr. kidd's office - she thought that baby in the mirror was hysterical! need.more.mirrors!)...her elephant toy that hangs from her car seat...TV!! that's fairly new too - she loves to lay on the footstool (or in her snug-a-bunny) and watch tv. anything really - but she is partial to Monday Night Football, wipeout, the cartoon about the spiders (can't remember what it's called) and this horrible tv show that was on last friday night - "friends with benefits". not really appropriate for a 2-month old, but she really thought they were talking to her. :) she smiles and coos and kicks those little feet of hers!
...we celebrated lots of birthdays in august - including her daddy's 40th! :) we celebrated with cousin laurie (surprise party!), cousin nick (he was visiting from virginia!), cousin davia (with a special lunch at moe's!) and daddy! makes me glad she was born in july - another birthday in august would be a bit much for this family! we also did the lunch 'scene' for a few weeks - and met my dear friends dana, coleen and ruth ann for lunch (all on different days)! we also made an attempt to visit mommy's work - and screamed most of the time. ;) we're definitely trying to get out and about more...and some days it works, some days it doesn't. :) she seems to have a thing about the car rides now too - as in she *doesn't* care for it anymore. (sigh).
