Test Run #1

Well...wasn't that an exciting day?!

After an email last night from a friend of mine from high school who saw my ankle photos (as well as Derrick's continuous complaining since Friday that I needed to call my doctor)...I called Dr. Perkins office today to let them know my feet/ankles were swelling and I wondered if maybe I should have my blood pressure checked.  At first, I got the lecture about "that is typical at this point in your pregnancy - usually we tell women to cut back on salt - no mexican food, no pizza..."  Which I get, really I do. "Do you have a headache? blurry vision? bleeding?"  No.  But when I told her that my BP had been running just slightly high the entire pregnancy, she said ok maybe you come in and we check it.  Geez, don't make me twist your arm! :)  We made an appointment with the nurse practitioner for 2pm.

I started getting crampy around lunch time...and that's when I started to wonder if maybe Derrick's dream was right and today was the day that Madison was coming!  I tried to drink some water - like they've told me in the past in hopes that I was just dehydrated...but the cramps were still there.

We got to the doctor's office around 2pm - and the nurse took my BP.  It was high.  Like higher than my normal BP (which is already borderline high).   Like 164/84.  And a few minutes later, when the nurse practitioner came in - it was even higher...like 160/90. :(  So they decided I need to go to labor/delivery and have some tests done - just to check for pre-eclampsia and make sure everything was ok.  That's when I really started to freak out.

I was admitted and got a room in triage.  Got to hear Maddie's heartbeat on a fetal monitor (that was cool!) for awhile and they checked my blood pressure every 15 minutes.  It was very erratic - up, down, up again, down again, first # up, second # down...we did some blood work and a urine sample and everything came back ok.  So no pre-eclampsia so far - but not to say I won't.  :)

Me - being admitted.
I'll admit it - I was F-R-E-A-K-I-N-G out here.
On the verge of tears.

The on call doctor came in (Dr. Jessica Bell with Southside OB/GYN - she's really cool...for anyone looking for a new OB/GYN!) - and she said basically I have gestational hypertension...and I'm done with work - no more. Bed rest. No more stress. No more on my feet. Time to take it easy and wait for Madison.  She is going to talk to Dr. Perkins tomorrow - and I have an appointment already scheduled with him on Friday at 11:30am.  She personally doesn't think we should do a c-section anytime soon - and thinks we should at least let her "incubate" (hehe - that sounds funny!) at least another week.  But I'll tell you what...I'm going to go crazy (not to mention insane using my 2 weeks of vacation) just sitting around on bed rest.  I think we need to let Miss Madison come next week. :)  We'll see how convincing I can be with Dr. Perkins!  We're going to do a non-stress test on Friday too.

Me - in the hospital bed.
Yes - checking email on my Itouch.

Dr. Bell did put me on some BP meds too...boo.  I never wanted to be on BP medicine - but I guess you have to do what you have to do.  Hopefully it's only until Maddie gets here.

This is funny...when she came in she said "so WOW - big girl in there, huh?!  8lbs.6oz as of last week?!".  She asked if she could see my tummy - and then said "OH MY GOODNESS!!".  I just had to laugh.  She said "not really what you want your ob/gyn to say, right?!" :)  She's really cool. :)

So I'm on "Bed Rest - may go to bathroom only" (that's what the doctor's note says for work!).   Yet I feel like I have so much "unfinished" business at work - I didn't even finish my "out of the office" memo to my co-workers!  Grrr!!!  Need to let it go.  Must.Let.It.Go.

Like my mom told me, 'women used to always take off at least a couple weeks before their due date - you career women today just push yourselves too much!' :)  Love you, mom.  Ready for you to be back from vacation!!

So. There was my day.  And we did take quite a few photos to document the day...

This morning...having no idea what the day was about the bring!

Car is packed - has been since Monday. :)
Looks like we're going on vacation, huh?

This is the view from the room I was in.

They checked my blood pressure every 15 minutes.
This was one of the lower ones. :)
