Happy *1* One Month Birthday, Madison!

Today is Madison's one month birthday (in case you hadn't read about it 1 or 2 times on Facebook already today!).  It seems like so long ago that we were at the hospital - visiting the NICU every 3 hours to feed her while we tried to get her blood sugar levels up...and now look at her - she's a healthy (at 10lbs.10.5oz!) and happy baby girl! :)  Thank God!

I wrote down some notes a couple nights ago (while feeding her at 3am!) so that I would remember what to include in her "1 month birthday" blog post. :)  So here we go!

In Maddie's first month...

...she has beautiful auburn hair just like her mommy and cousin davia. :)  she has about the same amount of hair she had when she was born - and it's longer in the back (yup, she has a baby mullet!)

...right now she has big dark blue eyes - but mommy hasn't given up hope that they'll still turn brown like hers.  however,  I'm losing faith each day that that will happen!

...she has some of the cutest facial expressions - mommy's favorite is when she's sleeping and she raises her eyebrows way up like she's saying "i am soooo tired that i cannot even open my eyes!"  she also has a pretty sweet little pout and sometimes when you talk to her she'll purse her lips like she's saying "oooooooooo".  :)  she has a pretty mean angry look too - she'll furrow her brow and give you a big frown! :)

...she gets terrible bouts of hiccups - which she even had in the womb!  the first couple weeks they didn't phase her at all...but she's starting to get pretty frustrated with them!  it's a daily happening for poor little maddie!  they are pretty intense...and hopefully she'll outgrow them.

...she'll sleep 2-3 hours at a time.  i feel pretty confident in saying she has never slept more than 3 hours at any one time. :)   hopefully she'll start sleeping longer (for mommy and daddy's sake!).  she sleeps quite a bit - even throughout the day.  lately she's been fighting going to sleep - even though she's really fussy and really tired.  that went on for a couple days just this week.  usually in the afternoon's mommy will put her in her snug-a-bunny rocker - and yes, we've been putting her slightly on her side...she likes to sleep that way (we think it's more comforable for her tummy).  at night she sleeps on her back though! :)

...she's had some congestion lately - but dr. kidd says not to worry!  it's mostly at night - she's probably going to have allergies like her mom!

...we've been doing pretty well with the breastfeeding - usually every 2-3 hours.  some days she'll go thru a phase where she wants to eat every hour.  it's exhausting!   dr. kidd didn't seem worried and said that's all part of breastfeeding!   i usually breastfeed her all day - and then daddy will feed her a bottle of breastmilk her last nightly feeding (9pm-10pm) as well as the next one (1am-2am) while i pump bottles. sometimes we do supplement with formula at those feedings.  then i start the breastfeeding again at like 4am or so.  i have to laugh because those times are hardly accurate...it's 10:02pm right now and we breastfed her an hour ago and she's in bed.  which means we'll be up around midnight for a bottle/pumping. :)  nothing's a sure deal in breastfeeding i've discovered!  she does have some tummy issues (ok, gas!) - so we do give her drops of medicine usually after each big feeding.

...a sidenote on feeding Maddie - she is like feeding an octopus!  she has her hands all involved, trying to fit them in her mouth....it's nuts!   she always had her hands up by her face in the ultrasounds - and boy she sure does like to have them up there still!

...she wore some of her smaller 0-3 onesies when she first came home from the hospital (stuff i thought she would *never* wear!) - but she's pretty much into her 0-3 stuff now...and outgrowing it daily!  there are already some outfits she can't wear because they are too small!  might be moving into the 3-6 months before we know it!  it's funny because i bought all of these pretty dresses and bows for her to wear - but to be honest?  she mostly stays in onesies during the week unless we are going somewhere special!  it cracks me up - since i was so into buying bows before she was born!  i don't know...just easier and seems more comfy for her to wear onesies!

...we give her a bath every other day (per the hospital).  the first couple were questionable - we had no idea what we were doing and she was having no part of any of it! :)  but we've got a system down now and she seems to enjoy it.  only thing she doesn't like is getting cold - so we have to get her out and dressed pretty quickly before her lip starts quivering!   i love the johnson & johnson lavender night time stuff...yummy!

...she does have a couple birthmarks - and dr. kidd said they would go away eventually.  they haven't yet - but i'm ok with that. :)  they make her special.  she has one mark ("angel kiss") right between her eyebrows - and quite a large red patch on the back of her head (covered by the mullet!).

...she has some pretty...interesting...noises she makes - including one that sounds like a horse and some squeeks. :)  i think she's starting to "talk" back to us a little bit more - look forward to more of that in the months to come!

...maddie does like to be held. :)  i was told that you couldn't spoil a newborn - so yes, i did hold her quite a bit those first couple weeks. :)  she will sleep for awhile (and maybe even the whole 3 hours) in her bouncer - but she also is just as content to sleep on mommy!  she has been sleeping in her big girl princess crib since week #3!

...some of her favorite things: the ficus tree we have in the family room (i think they have some kind of special language - she'll just stare at it!), the ceiling fan of course, my necklace (she'll get a death grip on it like she's never going to let go!), chats with daddy (he'll have pretty intense conversations with her - and has been known to sing as well!) and riding in the car (usually - she has had a couple screaming sessions in the car as well).

...some outings so far in her first month:  babies r us with grandma jo, target (that did not go well - we might try it again?), bouncertown to vist the sowder cousins and a couple family outings at aunt rosie's and grandma's.  we also went on a walk down the street to a local pizza place one evening.  hopefully we can do a lunch outing with daddy and a trip to the westin this month!

Her first month was also during the worst heat wave in Indiana history in many, many years!  so we spent a lot of time inside these first 4 weeks.  I do want to give a shout out to my mom - who came over every day the first couple weeks to help around the house and just BE here for me. :)  i so appreciate all that she did (not limited to doing our laundry and moping the kitchen floor!) - including just letting me take a shower without worrying about Maddie being left alone!  love you mom!

We had a little photo shoot this evening in her "1 Month" onesie - she did pretty well but is probably a little concerned about how crazy her mom and dad are. :)  Oh - and she did have the hiccups during this photo session! :)

Mr. Pink Bear from the Hospital! :)

Yeah...remember that frown face I was writing about above?? :)

It's like she thinks I'm going to tell her a secret!
